- This photograph by André Caillet is part of a series, conserved in the Centre for Dalinian Studies, of Gala posing next to a Retrospective Bust of a Woman version, in which both she and the bust wear the Shoe Hat designed by Schiaparelli and Dalí on their heads. This Schiaparelli-Dalí creation for the 1937-1938 Winter season is one of the outstanding examples of the artist’s collaborations with some of the most prominent fashion designers of the 1930s. On this occasion, the plaster bust appears without the trappings of the original Surrealist object (loaf of bread, inkwell and zootrope), thus emphasizing the its creative side impact on the fashion world.
