- One of the series of seven compositions for The Seven Lively Arts commissioned by Billy Rose to decorate the Ziegfeld Theater — in this case, the theme is dance. The original seven paintings depicted the arts of radio, concert, ballet, opera, boogie-woogie, cinema and theatre. When they were destroyed in a fire at Billy Rose’s house, the artist agreed to recreate the seven paintings (See catalogue numbers {549}, {588}-{593}).
