- This work was used for the cover of the the special publication marking the fiftieth anniversary of the magazine Vogue in France. As we can read in the magazine’s summary: "Dedicated to Gala cover drawn by Salvador Dalí, with a photo of Marilyn Monroe by Philippe Halsman - Magnum, "Mao-iphied" by Dalí" (image 2). In 1981 the painting was altered and the characters adorning the pedestal and the central horizontal object were added. (Robert Descharnes, "Dalí, l’oeuvre et l’homme". Lausanne, Edita, 1984, p. 431). *Although the catalogue of the exhibition ‘Dalí Grafista’ states that the exhibition was held from March 19 to November 1, 2003, we know that the works were on show for the period of time detailed in the section on exhibitions.
